What is it?

A full innovation program designed to give your teams the tools, know-how and ongoing guidance to successfully create new business models and innovative new customer and employee experiences.

What happens in the program?

A typical engagement begins with selecting a cross-functional team from your organization to spend up to 20% of their time ideating, developing and testing ideas for business innovation on real customers.

Day 1

An 8 hour kick-off workshop to introduce the key principles behind Lean Startup, Design Thinking and User Experience and for your team to formulate their first innovation ideas. At the end of the workshop, your team will have selected one business idea and have designed one experiment using our experiment template.

Week 1

Your team creates a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) designed to be used to validate whether their idea solves a real customer need. Your team meets with the mentor once per week to ensure they have a well-designed experiment, a well designed MVP and have identified and got feedback from real customers.

Week 2

Using the learnings from the first week, your team creates another experiment, another MVP and validates/invalidates the idea with more customers.

Week 3

Using the learnings from the previous week, your team creates another experiment, another MVP and validates/invalidates the idea with more customers.

Week 4

Using the learnings from the previous week, your team creates another experiment, another MVP and validates/invalidates the idea with more customers.

End of week 4

The team and mentor meets with senior management to justify their learnings and decide whether we should persevere with the idea or pivot to a new or modified idea.

Weekly mentor sessions

The mentor asks “What did you learn? How do you know?” with the idea being that the team can only know things by getting feedback from real customers. The mentor guides the team in creating the next experiment.

What is Lean Startup?

Lean Startup principles have been applied at companies as diverse as AirBnB, GE, Dropbox, Amazon, Spotify and many more.

The Lean Startup is a framework that relies on the Build-Measure-Learn loop to eliminate uncertainty in the product or business development process. As Eric Ries states, ‘The question is not “Can this product be built?” Instead, the questions are “Should this product be built?” and “Can we build a sustainable business around this set of products and services?”’

By developing Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) i.e. the smallest thing we can create to learn from a customer, and by tracking each MVP in a specific experiment with precise fail/success metrics, innovation teams are able to make incredible progress in learning the answers to the ’Should this product be built?’ before investing any time in actually making a real product.

Who is this for?
