Figma training: cost, length and what you need installed
Figma training cost depends on format: self-paced video for one person is the cheapest route, while a live session run for a team is priced per group, not per head. Most people need one to two days of teaching, a free Figma account and a browser.
If you are looking up Figma training cost, you are either paying for yourself, or you are putting a team through it and explaining the spend to your boss.
This covers what drives the price, how long it takes, and what to set up on your laptop first. There are no figures on this page. They move, and one person and a team are not priced the same way.
Written for people who have to build the screens and explain the spend.
What drives the price
There are three formats, and each one is priced differently.
Self-paced video is the cheapest. One person, one login, watch and rebuild at your own pace. Good if you are teaching yourself and nobody is waiting on you.
Live training for a group is priced by the session, not per head. So eight people costs close to what twelve does. If you are the one buying, that maths matters: a half-empty room is the expensive way to do it.
Custom work costs more because someone has to look at your files first. A session built around your bank's onboarding screens takes preparation that a generic class does not. The custom workshop page covers pricing, length and what to prepare.
One thing that does not change the price: Figma itself. The Starter plan is free.
How long the training takes
One to two days is enough for most people to build screens, use components and share a link someone else can comment on.
A half day is a demo. People leave able to describe Figma and not able to open it.
Speed comes later. A couple of weeks of real files and you stop hunting for the auto layout controls. That part does not happen in the room.
What matters more is the Monday after. If nobody has a file to make when the session ends, book it later. Training that people are made to attend does not change how they work on Monday. If you are learning on your own and nothing is booked in, The video course works better, because you start it on the day you need it.
What you need installed before day one
Less than people expect.
- A free Figma account, made before the session. Doing sign-ups in the room wastes everyone's time.
- A browser. Chrome or Edge. Figma runs in the browser and that is fine for learning.
- The desktop app only if your laptop is slow with tabs open.
- A mouse. Trackpad zooming in Figma gets old fast.
For teams there is one more: get IT to confirm figma.com is not blocked, and that people can sign in with their work email. Banks and insurers block more than you would think, and a room that cannot sign in cannot open the file.
If your team is on a paid Figma plan already, check who holds the seats. Viewers cannot edit. People arrive thinking they have access and find out in the first exercise that they do not.
Decide individual or team first
A person teaching themselves and a team learning together are different purchases.
On your own, self-paced is better value and you can stop when you have what you need. Nobody is waiting for the group to catch up.
For a team, the payoff is that everyone names layers the same way, uses the same component library and can open each other's files. That does not happen when people learn separately from YouTube.
If the team has no shared file to work on, you are paying group prices for what self-paced video would do. If you are not sure whether the team needs training or a decision about the work first, the strategy session page sets out the difference.
Get a before number, or you cannot show it worked
Skip this and you cannot answer your boss when he asks whether the money did anything.
Pick one thing and write it down before the training. Turnaround time on a screen, from idea to something a developer can build. Or how many rounds of email it takes to sign off a layout.
Write the figure down, not a description of it. Measure it again eight weeks later.
Here is why the before number matters. On five-day design sprints with a large insurer, customer-facing web journeys that used to take six months or more were designed and tested with customers in two weeks, and live in four. Twenty-six weeks down to four. Completion rates went up 80 per cent and the old drop-off points disappeared. The client measured it. Without their starting numbers none of it could be shown.
A good feedback score at the end of the training tells you people showed up, but that's it...
What to do this week
- Decide whether this is one person learning or a team working on the same files. The answer changes which format you pay for.
- Have everyone create a free Figma account now, and ask IT to confirm figma.com and work email sign-in are not blocked.
- Find the real file people will make first. If there is not one, push the date back.
- Write down one before number: turnaround time on a screen, or rounds of sign-off.
- Put a reminder in your calendar eight weeks after the session to measure that same number again.

Questions people ask
How long does it take to get useful in Figma?
One to two days of teaching gets most people building and sharing screens. Getting quick and tidy takes a few weeks of real work after that, which is why the first project after training matters more than the training itself.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Figma runs in a browser on the free Starter plan, which is enough to learn on. The desktop app is optional and only worth installing if your laptop struggles with browser tabs.
Is Figma training worth it if I am not a designer?
Yes, if you have a real file to make. Ops leads, product managers and marketers use Figma to sketch screens and comment on work. If you have nothing to build after the session, wait until you do.
On-Off Group trains teams, tests products with real customers, finds where a transformation has stalled and builds what gets it moving, for banks, insurers and enterprises in the Philippines, since 2015. How we help with figma training.
